Reunion Dinner: Part II — Family Stories and Recipes

Chinese New Year is always the perfect excuse for family to gather around good food and warm company.

We found ourselves once again at my grandparents’ house, enjoying the annual feast my grandmother prepares. Since it was Chinese New Year’s Eve yesterday, it felt like another reunion dinner—fond, familiar and full of tradition.

My granny’s famous handmade “Ngo Hiang” (stuffed deep-fried meat rolls).

Her crispy fried prawns, always a crowd-pleaser.

And her comforting, flavorful chicken curry.

One dish that never misses a spot on the reunion table: longan with almond jelly.

After the feast, our attention turned to our newest little star—my two-year-old cousin, En Tong.

Some readers may remember En Tong from an earlier reunion dinner post; she has a way of charming everyone around her, and this celebration was no exception.
