Many readers have asked me to share the natural products I use and love. I hesitated because recommending a product is something I take seriously—I don’t want to endorse something unless I’m confident it’s a good recommendation.
Finding natural products that actually work can be difficult. I’m constantly trying new deodorants; after years I still haven’t found a natural one I’ll stick with. The same goes for facial care and other personal products.
When the Moody Sisters Etsy shop contacted me to try some of their natural products, I was reluctant. I often decline offers because I’m concerned about having to write an honest, potentially negative review. That said, when I saw they offered a natural sunscreen bar, I agreed to try their products—natural sunscreens are one of the hardest items for me to find and I wanted to give it a fair test.
They sent three natural lip balms and a natural sunscreen bar. Since the sunscreen was the product I was most excited about, I’ll start there.
I’ve tried so many brands of natural sunscreen. Often they’re free of the toxic chemicals found in conventional sunscreens, which is great, but many are thick pastes that are difficult to rub into my kids’ skin—leaving them looking like little ghosts running around the yard.
Moody Sisters’ sunscreen bar is different. It comes in a bar form, similar to a soap bar. I rub it across my kids’ skin and then use my hands to blend it in. It absorbs easily without leaving a thick white cast. That was a relief.
And does it protect? We’ve used it throughout spring and summer with excellent results—no signs of sunburn, even with sweating and swimming. It’s also blended with insect-repelling essential oils, so it helps keep bugs away. The scent is reminiscent of citronella, which isn’t my favorite, but I appreciate the dual-purpose protection from both sun and insects.
The main drawback is the bar format’s tendency to pick up debris. When used outdoors, sand and grass can stick to the bar, which is a minor nuisance compared to the product’s ease of use and effectiveness.
I also tried three Moody Sisters lip balms: vanilla almond, chocolate mocha, and rose-tinted vanilla. I’ve used lip balm regularly since childhood and have tried many varieties. The vanilla almond and chocolate mocha are pleasant but not exceptional.
The rose-tinted vanilla, however, stood out. It’s the first tinted balm (not gloss) I’ve genuinely liked. I’m not a lipstick person—I often feel overdressed with it—but this tinted balm gives a subtle, natural color that makes me look more polished without feeling like I’m wearing heavy makeup. I’ll definitely reorder when mine runs out.
Overall, I’ve been very pleased with Moody Sisters Natural Skincare products and feel comfortable recommending them.
Even better—one reader will win a $25 gift certificate to choose products from the Moody Sisters Etsy shop. Their shop offers a variety of natural items; I recently ordered their natural deodorant and dry shampoo to try next.
