Safe-to-Eat Brownie Batter Recipe for Snacking and Desserts

All raw batter is fair game if you’re feeling adventurous! 😉 If you don’t want to bake and just crave a rich chocolate dip to scoop into, this edible brownie batter is perfect. It’s quick, uses protein powder instead of raw flour (no heat-treating required), and comes together with just five ingredients in about five minutes.

What You Need to Make This Edible Batter

Ingredients:

  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips (½ cup / 85 g)
  • Unsalted butter (¼ cup / 56.75 g)
  • Light brown sugar, packed (¼ cup / 50 g)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder (¼ cup / 25 g)
  • Vanilla protein powder (¼ cup / 27 g)

Step by Step Instructions

This is much faster and simpler than making a traditional brownie batter.

Step 1 — Melt the chocolate and butter.
Chop the butter into tablespoons and combine it with the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 20–30 second bursts, stirring between each, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.

Step 2 — Mix in the sugar.
While the chocolate mixture is still warm, whisk in the brown sugar. Keep stirring until the sugar has mostly dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

Step 3 — Add the cocoa and protein powder.
Stir in the unsweetened cocoa powder and vanilla protein powder until evenly combined. The cocoa balances the sweetness, and the protein powder replaces flour as a binding agent, giving the batter structure and a slightly protein-rich boost.

Ways to Enjoy This Brownie Batter

The simplest way is to spoon it straight into your mouth, but here are a few fun serving ideas:

  1. Mix in toppings:
    • Peanut butter
    • Chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups
    • Mini chocolate chips
    • Mini M&Ms
    • Marshmallow fluff
    • Cookie butter or sprinkles
  2. Layer it in cakes — use as a no-bake filling between cake layers.
  3. Dip cookies in it for an indulgent treat.
  4. Top ice cream with a spoonful for a brownie-batter sundae.
  5. Make edible brownie bites: Right after mixing, use a small cookie scoop to portion batter onto parchment or wax paper. Let the scoops sit for about 30 minutes and you’ll have bite-sized chocolate snacks.

Can I adjust the amount of sugar?

Yes — reduce the brown sugar if you prefer a less sweet batter. Since this is not baked, you can easily tweak ingredient amounts to taste.

Can I use a different protein powder?

Yes. Vanilla protein powder works well, but you can experiment with other flavors. If you use chocolate protein powder, consider reducing the added cocoa to avoid excessive chocolate intensity.

Does it stay soft?

The batter may firm slightly as it sits. Warm it briefly in the microwave or stir in a little milk or cream to loosen it if needed.
