Spooky Onion Butter Burgers for Halloween Party Night

Almost Too Cute To Eat

Halloween Onion Butter Burgers are a fun, flavorful twist on a classic burger — perfect for a festive dinner or a Halloween party. Seasoned butter and a savory onion soup mix give these patties rich, comforting flavor while simple decorations make them playfully spooky.

This recipe is written for full-size burgers, but you can easily make sliders for a party tray. A build-your-own burger bar is a great way to let guests, both kids and adults, customize and decorate their own spooky sandwiches.

These patties bake in the oven for an easy, low-mess preparation. Add the seasoned butter near the end of baking so the burgers stay juicy and get a buttery onion finish.

Simple Ingredients + Big Flavor

These burgers are made with just a few pantry-friendly ingredients but deliver big flavor. I prefer a lean 90/10 ground beef for this recipe since the butter is added later, which restores some richness and keeps the patties juicy.

Onion Mix

A packet of French onion soup mix gives these burgers their signature savory depth. This mix is commonly stocked in the soup aisle, but you may also find it with other seasoning mixes such as taco seasoning or gravy packets.

Press It Out

After forming the meat into balls and letting them rest, flatten each ball with the bottom of a heavy glass to create a slightly indented patty. The indentation helps the burgers bake evenly and creates a small well for the butter. If the glass sticks, spray it lightly with nonstick spray or cover the meat with wax paper or plastic wrap before pressing.

More Spooky Treats

If you’re planning a Halloween spread, these burgers pair well with other seasonal favorites like cheesy dips or savory tarts. Consider offering a few themed sides so guests can mix and match flavors.

Halloween Onion Butter Burger Recipe

A delicious Halloween burger with buttery onion flavors that is more cute spooky than super creepy.

Ingredients

  • 1 to 1.5 pounds lean ground beef (90/10)
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 1 tablespoon dill pickle juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (for butter)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 4 buns
  • 4 slices dill pickle (or hamburger pickle slices)
  • 8 green olives
  • Ketchup and mustard

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef with pickle juice, French onion packet, black pepper, and onion powder. Mix gently—do not overwork the meat. Form into 4 large balls (or smaller for sliders) and place on a baking sheet. Let rest on the pan for about 20 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Use the bottom of a heavy glass to press each ball into a flattened patty with a slight indentation in the center. Lightly spray the glass or use wax paper if it sticks.
  4. Bake the patties for 12–15 minutes, depending on thickness and your oven. Check the first time to determine exact timing for your setup.
  5. While the burgers bake, mix the softened butter with garlic salt, onion powder, and dried parsley until combined.
  6. Top each cooked patty with a dollop of the seasoned butter and return to the oven for a couple of minutes until the butter melts. Remove from oven.
  7. Optional: Brush buns with some of the pan butter and toast cut side down in a hot skillet until golden.
  8. Assemble burgers: place patties on buns, add ketchup and mustard, set a pickle slice so it peeks out from under the top bun, then press the lid on. Attach two olive halves on top with toothpicks to create “eyes” for a playful Halloween look.
  9. Serve and enjoy this spooky, buttery, onion-forward burger.
