Another year of baking has come and gone at Baking Bites, filled with new recipes, helpful techniques, and a lot of delicious testing. In 2017 I published more than 185 new recipes — from cookies and cakes to breads and frozen treats — plus additional posts on other sites. I also completed a new cookbook, Perfectly Creamy Frozen Yogurt, which will be released in the spring. Before we move forward, here’s a look back at the ten most popular new recipes of the year. Which one will you try first?

10. Big Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies – These oversized cookies combine ripe banana, hearty oats, and plenty of chocolate chips for a treat that works as a breakfast pick-me-up or an afternoon snack.

9. Fudgy Coffee Flour Chocolate Chip Cookies – Coffee flour, made from ground coffee beans, adds depth and nutrition to cookies. The result is a fudgy, intensely flavored cookie that coffee lovers will appreciate.

8. Meyer Lemon Snickerdoodles – Bright Meyer lemon lifts the classic snickerdoodle into something light and refreshing. Enjoy them with coffee in cooler months or sandwich them with ice cream in summer.

7. Chocolate Cheesecake Mousse – Inspired by cheesecake but much easier to make, this silky mousse offers an elegant, crowd-pleasing finish to any meal without the fuss of a traditional cheesecake.

6. Brown Sugar Cinnamon Blondies – Rich brown sugar and warming cinnamon transform simple blondies into an addictive sweet with a comforting, familiar flavor profile that disappears fast.

5. Sour Cream Blueberry Coffee Cake with Brown Sugar Streusel – A tender sour cream cake studded with berries and topped with a buttery brown sugar streusel makes for a rich, irresistible brunch or dessert option. Try swapping or combining berries for subtle variations.

4. Everyday Lemon Cake – Simple and speedy to prepare, this lemon cake balances sweet and tart in every bite. It’s a dependable go-to when you want fresh, bright flavor without a lot of effort.

3. Homemade Goth Ice Cream – Activated charcoal became a trend for natural dark coloring in foods, and this guide to “goth” ice cream showed how to get dramatic color while keeping the flavor—this version pairs vanilla with mint for a striking and delicious treat.

2. One-Bowl Coconut Muffins – These coconut muffins come together in a single bowl in minutes, so you can bake them even on busy mornings. They’re moist, flavorful, and perfect for brunch or a quick homemade snack.

1. The Best No-Mixer Sugar Cookies – This top recipe skips the mixer and uses vegetable oil instead of butter, producing soft, easy-to-make sugar cookies that many readers found irresistible. Their simplicity and dependable results made this the most popular new recipe of the year.
Beyond recipes, practical baking tips were also among the most-read posts. Popular guides included how to use freeze-dried fruit in baking and why cheesecakes crack and how to prevent it.
